As a Control Room and Security Officer, you are the ears and eyes of DNB, but also have a representative role.
Security and hospitality
You will secure our state-of-the-art office building in the heart of Amsterdam as well as our ultra-secure cash centre in Zeist. In these two completely different worlds, you can develop further in all aspects of the security profession. You will learn how to switch effortlessly from hospitality to security and back again. DNB holds the gold stock of the Netherlands , a top-quality art collection and a very exclusive collection of rare coins. In other words, a huge treasure chest that you will help secure.

Several hundred thousand kilos of gold are stored in the forest near Zeist. In the Cash Centre, a high-security facility on the New Amsterdam military compound in Zeist, De Nederlandsche Bank holds a large part of the national gold reserves. Take a look inside with this video.

Developing as a security professional
As a general security officer at DNB, you will first learn the ins and outs of our buildings and procedures. After that, you will be trained as a security control room operator. As a control room operator you will be mainly working in Zeist, but you will also continue to do regular security work. It’s a versatile and varied job, from which you can advance to a senior position or coordinating role.

I started as a security guard at DNB in 2020. I was just 18 and had my MBO 2 security diploma. I obtained my first aid and ERT certificates and kept them up to date.
I then trained internally as a security control room operator. It was a great opportunity – I learned a lot and gained new knowledge and experiences.
In consultation with my supervisor, I explored opportunities for further development. So I started training as a Security Coordinator.
I successfully completed my training, and in my role as coordinator, we immediately discussed further opportunities for expanding my knowledge and skills.
I was asked to train new security control room operators and to participate in a pilot programme to advance to a senior position. I jumped at these opportunities, and was able to follow a senior security training.
I started the IRIS Security Management training programme – a great opportunity to gain new knowledge and insights in the security profession.
Soon, I will have another discussion with my supervisor about my next steps. But right now, I am thoroughly enjoying my work and I participate in major projects at DNB.

Healthy working atmosphere and work-life balance
Security is a 24/7 job. Our team of experienced and new security guards is professional and committed. As a security guard, you will work day, evening and night shifts according to a regular schedule. That way, you always know where you stand well in advance. And working in alternating shifts obviously comes with a generous irregular hours allowance.

On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night, you will work night shifts from 23:00 to 7:30. Your weekend starts on Friday morning at 7:30 and your days off are Saturday and Sunday.
This week you will work early shifts, from 7:00 to 15:30, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Your days off are Thursday and Friday.
This week you will work evening shifts on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 15:00 to 23:30. Thursday is your day off. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you will work night shifts from 23:00 to 7:30.
After this weekend of night shifts, Sunday to Monday counts as the first night of the new week (week 4). Your days off are Monday from 7:30 until Wednesday. On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you will work evening shifts from 15:00 to 23:30.
This week you will start with two days off, on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday Thursday and Friday, you will work early shifts from 7:00 to 15:30. On Saturday and Sunday, you are off again.
You will work early shifts on Monday to Friday from 7:00-15:30. This is your on-call/flex week, in which you can be deployed at other times (note: this also applies to Saturday and Sunday) when other colleagues are sick or off. You will receive an on-call allowance for this. Read more about this under Salary.
Salary
At DNB, you will receive a competitive salary, with the pay scale depending on the knowledge and experience you bring to the job.
A total gross annual income between €35,350 and €48,400 including 13th month, 8% holiday pay and freely disposable personal budget, based on a 36-hour working week.
In addition, you will receive a fixed irregular hours allowance of 19.5% on your gross basic monthly salary (excluding 13th month, 8% holiday pay and personal budget). You can take the fixed irregular hours allowance into account when applying for a mortgage, for example.
You will also receive an additional allowance for your on-call/flex week.
